The concert is coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!
Get me off the streets and into your house to do a show for you and your community.
All you need is room that can hold 15 people or more. I don’t need sound equipment or special lighting, just a place to play and people to play too. (Oh, I’ll also need somewhere to stay overnight. I take up very little room and can sleep almost anywhere.)
House concerts work by the host (you) providing a place to play and the performer (me) putting on a show. I get the money from the tickets, and you get everlasting glory (and the satisfaction knowing you’ve done your bit to keep live performance alive--it’s tough out there!)
If you think you might be up for this, send me a message (trevstrong@gmail.com). I’m in Kingston, Ontario, so if you’re within a five-hour drive, I can pretty much put on a show any time. If you’re further away, I’ll need to put together at least a few shows to make it work, but I’m open to going anywhere in Canada. (And if you’re in Europe, I might be able to do that too. I can’t do the U.S. or U.K. as their work permit processes are too expensive and annoying).
If we go ahead with a show, here are the steps:
1: Decide on the capacity
How many folks can you fit comfortably in whatever room or area you will be holding the concert in?
2: Set the ticket price
For shows with a capacity of 15-20 the usual price is $30. For larger shows it’s $25.
3: Sell tickets
There are three main ways of doing this:
You keep the concert to you and your friends and sell the tickets to people you know (and to the people the people you know know). If you choose to do this, I won’t put it up on my site or push it on social media, and it will all be our little secret.
You make the show public and sell the tickets yourself. You could do this using an online ticket service or just get people to message you and e-transfer the money. For this kind of show I will promote it and get the word out.
I sell the tickets online. (And I can keep some tickets aside for you to sell to your friends if you want). I’ll promote it as much as I can, and you don’t have to worry about money.
No matter what you decide I’ll keep your address private. People will only know the exact location once they have bought a ticket.
4: Put on the Show
House concerts usually start at 7pm, but they can be any time, really. I am particularly fond of weekend afternoon shows. You can have a little time for folks to talk before I go on (especially if people know each other). You can have food, or not, totally up to you. Then I’ll do 30 to 40 minutes of music-comedy gold, take a well-earned break, and then do another 30 to 40. I’ll hang around after and chat and try to sell stuff from the bag of merch I’m lugging around.
Putting on a house concert is a bit of work, but it’s also a fun way to bring people together, which is especially important now that people aren’t getting together that much. I’m at the age where I just want to put on shows with the least amount of hassle and greatest amount of interaction. So get in touch and LET’S PUT ON A SHOW!
