About me

Once upon a time...

…there was a man who had to write his own “about” section of his website.

Hi, I’m Trevor. I’m mostly known for being an Arrogant Worm, but I also write books, create comedy for CBC radio (last gig was The Irrelevant Show), and teach and give workshops. A few years back I returned to school where I researched creativity and humour in education. I got my PhD and so, if you want to, you can call me Dr. Strong–it makes me feel like a supervillain.

I was born in Ottawa, although I have no recollection of the event. I later moved to Belleville for my awkward teen years where I demonstrated great artistic potential in my role as Eddie the Bear at the Quinte Mall, where I would wave at people and hand out gift certificates.

Then it was off to Queen’s University for some sort of degree… I really wasn’t sure what. I’m pretty sure I ended up with one. It was at Queen’s as a member of the student entertainment juggernaut knows as the Queen’s Players where the Arrogant Worms took root and grew. The Worms somehow became a full-time thing and I spent many years travelling back and forth across Canada and the United States (with the occasional visit to the U.K. and Australia). I also wrote books: First, my self-help book, Get Stupid!;then my short story collection, Very Grimm Fairy Tales; and then my novel, Edgar Gets Going.

I continue to be a Worm and write, but teaching has become my primary focus. I am an Adjuct Professor at Queen’s University teaching music to future primary and junior teachers, and curriculum theory in the Professional Master of Education program.

I also give workshops in creativity and humour, and have recently started up the HAcademy  where I deliver comedy courses both on line and in person.
