In the Works

Edgar Gets Going–the rise and fall and rise and fall of a fairly decent bass player

Edgar didn’t want to be a giant bumble-bee.  Edgar wanted to rock.

As bass player for the 80’s one hit wonder, Rock Viper, Edgar Martin toured the world, had sex with groupies, and made thousands of people deaf. But the band broke up and now Edgar finds himself eating leftover pizza, talking to his cat, and in desperate need of money. Then, out of the blue, his old manager offers him a gig in a hot new band. Edgar arrives for rehearsal and discovers the “band” is a kids’ act called the Garden Guys who dress up as giant backyard creatures: Edgar is the bee. Edgar wants to leave, but, thinking of the money, reluctantly puts on the costume—after all, it’s just one gig. But it isn’t. It is the first step in a journey involving songs about squirrels, attempted murder, and way too much dancing.

Dan Danby vs. the Underthings

After his Uncle Stan’s mysterious disappearance, Dan and his family move into the strange house his grandparents built at the bottom of the valley. That night, he is surprised to find a small green creature pop its head into his room. Following it down endless stairs, Dan comes to a large, faintly glowing hole. As he looks in, the creature gives him a shove and Dan is sent tumbling into the Underworld. He crashes on a mountaintop where he is chased by apathetic, but still dangerous, Ogres. But, just as they are about to catch him, the mysterious Masked Guy pulls him into his secret cave and tells Dan about the Dark Prince’s evil plan to invade the Earth. Dan joins the Masked Guy’s rebel army (becoming its only member) and embarks on a perilous journey where he is snorted by the Snot Monster, fed to the fish-pigs, and discovers that maybe Uncle Stan didn’t really disappear after all. Can Dan save the Earth? Will he be trapped in the Underworld forever? Or, worst of all, will he be rescued by his annoying little sister, Matty?
